 Mid-term sharing assembly.
Term 3, 2020

Room 2 would like to share with you all some of the work we have been doing over the last five weeks at school.  We have written some information to share with you all and attached some photos to match.

Please feel free to ask us any questions in the comments below if you have them.

SCIENCE:
This  term we are learning about how to conduct a science experiment.
One thing we have learnt about is what apparatus is.

We completed an experiment called 'Make it Rain'.
We put the ice cubes on a plate and put the plate on the bowl filled with boiling water. We waited for two minutes. After two minutes steam rose and melted the ice, this cooled the condensation on the bottom of the plate and the water then fell back in the bowl, like rain.

The apparatus we needed for this experiment was:
Apparatus:
  • Hot water
  • Jug to put the hot water in.
  • Ice cubes
  • A large plate
  • A glass bowl

Maori:

The Matariki celebration is when we all get together and celebrate Matariki together as a whanau. Matariki is the Maori New Year.

The seven sisters are the biggest stars in the night sky. These can be seen in June and July.

Writing:

This term we have been learning about how to use personification. Personification is where we give non human things human characteristics.

Here are some examples from our 'Storm' writing.

  • The thunder and lightning broke the houses ears.
  • The wind puffed out it’s cheeks and blew me.
  • The lava was tiptoeing down the volcano.
  • The thunder raced across the forest.

Garden:

We have looked forward to selling our vegetables.
We have been growing vegetables in our school garden. Carrots, broccoli and potatoes.

Mr Fox (Jaxon's dad) gave us compost and we spread it down to give more food to the vegetables.

People have spent time picking up rubbish to keep our school and garden tidy.
We have pulled out weeds and cut the broccoli to sell to our whanau.
We have been taking rubbish out and got compost out  of the compost bin to use as well in the garden.
We absolutely love our time in the garden.

Cross Country 2020

2020 Cross Country...

The Level 2 Covid lockdown version.

What a crazy year we are having... A return to Covid Level 2 lockdown meant we couldn't go to our planned Cross Country event.   This was a bit upsetting given all of the hard work that had gone in to training for this.

We decided that we would have our very own

Ardgowan School Cross Country!

We are so very proud of all of the children and how well they did in this race. They all pushed themselves to be the best they could be!

Great race everyone!

He iwi ataahua katoa!
